Moon Webb Thu, 29 Aug 2002 Subject: Street name If I 'm not mistaken the street that was across from Clinton was Green St. Nancy Maddox lived on it. Also across from the gas station was another stationary store. Up on the street on the left was a little house that was a thrift store(bought my first pair of ice skates there). Next to Frangione's the stairs went up to a beauty parlor.Yes, across the street from St. Pats was a furniture store called Lyons--behind it was a big sorta parking lot. We used to use it to go to the back of Woolworth's, which by the way if you went in the front door the lunch counter was on the right side of the store. Frangione's also had a lunch counter in the back of its store. I knew where all lunch counter's were-I liked food back then too. Does anyone remember the gas station below Huntington High going towards Town-it was called Mike's? How about Grant's dept. store? -- my aunt worked there for years; you could go in the back door (forgot that street) or the front door, which was on New York Ave. As this old mind kicks in I'll let you know. Fran P.S. Does anyone remember what the name of the food store that moved in just below the old town hall -- at that time it was to us a large chain, parking was in the back ? |

8/30/02--Jack's note: Remember three street's between Main and Woodbury--across from Clinton Green St, then across from Wall St was New St ?--the next one toward St Pat's was Prospect-- was the other stationery store on the corner across from the Gulf Station Rosenberg's?--in an upcoming feature by Allan Johnson on Huntington Today is a photo of the gas station near the high school--it was Mike Horan's Texaco, and a remembrance note on Mike is included. Remember Grant's well--and does anybody remember where McLellan's Five and Ten was--we sure could use more photos, people! On the block between Town Hall and New York Ave there was a Stop 'N Shop ?--and the Fire Dept--when did they move? |

August 20, 2002 Fran Moon Webb As for the main street picture, the house that was on the corner of Woodbury and Main across from St. Pat.'s belonged to the woman who used to play the organ in our church at St. Pat's. I can't remember her name at this time. Her house was sold and the bank was built then. Across the street from her was a furniture store, then a small liquor store-- don't remember the name. Hope to be of help Fran(Moon)Webb (Note: In a later e-mail, Fran recalls that the woman that played the St. Pat's organ and who lived in the corner house was Mrs. Rogers-Jack) |
