... an October 17, 2006 email from Frank Bell:

Hi Allan,
Toni and I did get to see Jack yesterday afternoon for about an hour. You are right, Jack is not doing well at all. He legs are full of fluid and he just about can get around. He is on oxygen 24 hrs. a day and he is having a hard time breathing. He is under Hospice care and that usually means only weeks.

His two sons are with him and Jack's sister is there. The youngest son is a big help to Jack and Jack's friend Doris Waldron Citterberg (Class of 1958) is an RN and is with Jack most of the time. She has been an angel, and has been by Jack's side through this whole thing and will be till the end. He is lucky to have a friend like Doris that is so caring.

Toni and I took flowers to Jack from the Florida Lunch Bunch. It breaks my heart but I don't think Jack will be up to going to the luncheon on the 25th, as he is getting weaker by the day. Sometimes life stinks but we have to go right on.

Well Allan, Toni and I will keep you informed of Jack's condition as we get the information.

......from Jack's sister Arlene on October 19, 2006:

My brother Jack passed away quietly and peacefully in his sleep early this morning. He had a very good day on his birthday with friends and family and then went home to his maker.

...and an October 19, 2006 email from friend Rich Czarnowski:

To All - I received a telephone call this morning from Tom MAGUIRE ('62), reference our FRIEND, John "Jack" OLSON ('56)............ Jack OLSON ('56) passed away this morning ( Oct 19th, 2006) at approximately 0200 hrs, at home. His son, Matt, was there with him & has been there, since the end of September........the pancreatic cancer had spread to Jack's lungs and liver - he put up a good "fight" , but the disease got the best of him. Jack did make it through his 68th birthday ( Oct 17th) with his sister, Arlene ('55), his two sons ( Drew & Matt ) , his friend, Dolores Citterberg-WALDRON('68) and his Uncle Henry JOHNSON ('47) , with him. "Scrapper Jack" , a fellow "Blue Devil", is now at rest ......................Rest In Peace, Jack.................. from Rich Czarnowski ('61)

...an October 23rd email from son Drew :

Dear Friends,

Matt, Arlene and I have planned a memorial service for Dad for this coming Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 1 PM at Peace Lutheran Church, 1801 Port Malabar Blvd., NE, Palm Bay, FL 32905 (321) 727-3131, with visiting immediately afterwards to celebrate "Scrapper Jack's" life at his home in Palm Bay (2861 Floresta Dr, N.E. 321-725-0998). All are welcomed to come and visit, to share pictures and stories.

Please, for those of you who really knew Dad, you all know he would not want any flowers (or for anyone to be sad for that matter), so in lieu of flowers we are asking those of you who wish to, to make a donation to either the American Cancer Society [http://www.acscan.org/site/pp.asp?c=cnJHJIPuB&b=83243] or Hospice of Health First, here in Palm Bay [321-952-0382].

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts during this difficult time,

Drew Olson
