I've known Bob since the late 40's when we were dragooned to attend the same
Sunday School in Huntington Station. We got along famously. He disappeared
but we next got together in Toaz after he was released by Dix Hills Elementary.
Then we were placed alphabetically in homeroom #312 in High School.
He was really dealt a bad hand the last 25 years. He had a major stroke in
his early 40's, lost a son in an auto accident, contracted colon cancer,
which metastasized, suffered fractures in rehab, etc, etc, etc. Yet, when
I called him every month or two, he was always easy to talk to...complaining
profanely about the bastids that broke his leg, etc but, despite knowing
he was doomed, was positive about the whatever lifetime he had left.
