Hello
Jane! A special Hello to my Woodbury Avenue classmates!
After High School, I was headed to Bucknell. My parents had sent in a down
payment and
I had been assigned a roommate! However, in June I met a neighbor
who told
me about the school that he had attended. He was very enthusiastic so I applied
in July and started in September at SUNY Maritime College at Fort Schuyler
in the Bronx. The military program kept you confined to the "Campus" during
the week and only let you out on the weekends if you didn't accumulate too
many demerits. My first year was spent trying to acclimate to the military
system.
The confinement eventually produced a graduate. In 1960, I graduated with
an engineering degree and went to work for Ingersoll-Rand Co. at 11 Broadway
in
New York City. During my senior year at the Maritime College, I met my future
wife. Pat and I were married in Garden City in 1962. Pat was born in Brooklyn
and grew up in Queens and Garden City.
We had an apartment in Rego Park and commuted to Manhatton by subway! I remember
that it took almost an hour to get to 11 Broadway! Our son Ted was born in Queens
in 1964. In 1965, I was transfered to their main manufacturing plant in Philipsburg,
New Jersey. We moved into our first house in Easton Pa. While in the Bethlehem-Easton
area, we had two more children and I went to Lehigh University for an MBA degree.
I was transferred to San Francisco by I-R in 1968. We bought a house in San Rafael
and are still living in the same house today.
My parents moved to Sun City, Arizona in 1972 so we did not visit Huntington
for many years. We stopped in Huntington last fall and had lunch with two of
my father's sisters
( Bonnie Lewis's mother and Roger Maguire's mother]. I worked
for Ingersoll-Rand , selling machinery, in San Francisco until 1982. In 1982,
I formed my own company as a manufacture's representative selling large industrial
machinery. My son Ted joined the company in 1987. My wife, Pat is the Treasurer,
Bookkeeper, Office Manager etc. Our three children are married and we have four
grandchildren. We are fortunate that they all live close by and we can baby-sit
and participate in their activities. I am looking forward to my first reunion
next week.
