Jack Olson
(Jack Passed away on October 19, 2006)
After graduation I was lucky to hook up with
2 registered pharmacists and went to work on Wall Street--Wall Street
in good old Huntington that is . We opened a drug store in the southdown
shopping center
( which was owned by Jon Rasmussen's father). That was 1958 and I stayed
there until 1968 when I opened a variety store 2 stores away from the drug
store. In 1962 I got married to a girl from Commack that I had met while
on a bowling team for Byers Fuel Oil Co (Nancy Byers father).I have two boys
with her but we divorced in 1974.
I was now a free 36 year old playboy who spent many a night in bars drinking. There I met my next female who ended up becoming wife #2 in 1978. She was just the person I was looking for, someone who could drink almost as much as me.(sick). She was not faithful to me from the start and I did not know it until one night I went to the local bar and there she was with the other man.
I sold my store and the two houses that I had and moved to Florida. I had been to Fl. several times to visit Kay Maas Taylor (class of 58 ) so I settled in Indialantic, Fl. in 1979. When I went back to N.Y. to pick up my 2 boys for the summer vacation the oldest decided to stay with me and the following year the youngest moved down with me. So I raised the 2 of them by myself. Sometime in mid 1979 I got a notice that I was now divorced again. I signed a 10 year lease in Melbourne Beach to open another variety store, but it was not until 1982 that they finally built my store but never put up the rest of the shopping center. I lasted two and a half years when I had to file corp. bankruptcy. Lost close to $200,000.00.
All these years I am having a love affair
with alcohol. In 1984 I joined a club called A.A. and have not had one
drink since (18+yrs). I have been a private investigator for the past
12 years. Took early
retirement at age 62 and only work part time.
I worked on the 10 year and 20 year reunion and I know how hard you work and
also all the fun you have.I also went to the 30 yr. Reunion but did not attend
the 40 yr. As it did not sound like it would be fun, run by an outside company.
My oldest son Drew went to Fla. University (gators) and then to de Paul law
school and practices law for Price-Waterhouse in Chicago. He is married but
no children yet. My youngest boy Matthew works for Gotham City News in N.Y.C.
He is not married yet,and no children.
I finaly bought a house last year(2001) and moved off the beach to Palm Bay.
I have been single since I moved to Fla. and plan to stay that way.
If I can assist in any way to help a reunion in Fl. Please do not hesitate
to call on me.
The class of 1956 is the best ever because they always wanted to have fun.
The best bunch of friends anybody would want to have. My best to all,
Jack Olson <><><>
