Roger Maguire
Greetings to all from someone that most of you don't remember. Roger Maguire now lives in Marion S.C. I will now attempt to give ya'll a brief rundown on what I have been doing since 1956.
Lets start with me going on active duty with the navy [been a reservist].Went to school, studied electronics [gun fire control radar], was assigned to the USS Willis E. Lee [DL4] in Newport R.I. Made several cruises to the Med & Carrib. Released from active duty in 1959. After my release from active duty I went to work for Republic Aviation in Farmingdale. I worked as an electrition in final assembly for 6 mos, after which I was moved to Flightline Operations Electronics. Within six months I was promoted to two star foreman, a position I held until early 1964.
Viet Nam was happening, and F105 fighter bombers were being sent to Asia &South East Asia. I was asked to go to the Republic of Korea, an assignment that I readily accepted since my first wife and I were on the verge of divorce. I spent 13 months in Korea assigned to the U.S. Dept of Defense on a top secret base. After departing Korea [leaving the love of my life], I was assigned to a base in Thailand in support of our effort in Viet Nam [don't wish to and can not relay any info on my activities during this asignment].
In 1965 I flew to Korea and wed my bride in the U.S.Embassy Seoul ..... I returned to the U.S.A. in Sept 1969 and took the brunt of peoples slurs about anyone that served in Nam. I left Republic upon my return to the U.S. to help my dad in his business [HALESITE HARDWARE]. Lost him within a year and ran the store for 17 years. Sold out in 1986 and worked for Newsday until 1992. Took the buyout and moved to S.C . THATS MY STORY AND I'M STICKIN TO IT.. Rog
