Well guys, here goes……..

On January 9, 1956 Bill King married Martha Samuels from Oyster Bay. Over the subsequent years we were blessed with five sons from that marriage. After graduation I went to work for my father in the construction business until he passed away in July of 1957. I had taken a few evening courses in construction theory at Farmingdale prior to his death. I ran the business for a year until my brother graduated from college with a civil engineering degree. He wanted to travel a different path, so we sold off the supplies and equipment and I went to work in a factory in Hicksville. I stayed there about a year until I was hired at a concrete construction plant driving heavy construction equipment. I worked there for eleven years. Until I moved into New York City to attend computer programming school.

Martha and I legally separated in 1968 and divorced in 1974. She later passed away in 1996 leaving me, five sons, and 9 grandchildren to mourn.

I worked as an Orderly in a hospital while attending programming school. After graduation from that school I worked as a computer operator for IBM. After about nine months I left IBM to obtain a programming position with the state of New York. Stayed there for about nine months before going to a bank in Jersey City, NJ. Stayed with the bank for 3 1/2 years before going to the Corporate Headquarters of the Singer Corporation located at Rockefeller Center in NYC. Stayed there 2 months short of seven years before relocating to Columbia, Maryland.

While working for Singer and being out of high school for about 16-17 years I decided to go back to college to obtain a degree. It worked! In 1977 I graduated from Touro College’s night school in Manhattan with a BA in Economics.

While working at the bank in Jersey City I met Karla Marioner. A number of years later, after I left the bank I accidentally ran into to Karla at a Xmas gathering. Thus, began our long time of being together, which we still are. Karla and I eventually had a son together who now is twenty years old. We eventually left New York City in 1979 and moved to Columbia, Maryland.

I started working for a computer consulting firm which was big in Government contracting. I liked the longevity of the contracts and worked on them for many of the different Agencies. I am still working for the same firm, 23 years, and looking to retire next year. After retirement I plan to take advantage of my condo in Myrtle Beach, SC, which happens to be on a golf course. I play at the game but have never conquered it to my satisfaction, and I am easy to please. Looking forward to what quite a few of you are already doing.

That’s basically my dull story compared to others I have read. I was fortunate enough to make it to the mini reunion in Huntington and had a ball! Looking forward to many more. You all take care now.

Bill King
