After reading the bios so far, some bringing a laugh or a tear or a gee-whiz
I humbly submit a synopsis of some of my life to date, Hope it doesn't bore
you guys!
After high school graduation the plan was for me to go to college.
So I attended and graduated from Queens College with a BA in Speech Education.
Fortunately I was hired by the school district where I'd done my student teaching
and spent four happy years in the Massapequa Public Schools.
I had married my high school sweetheart after my sophomore year of college
and left teaching in 1964 to give birth to my oldest child, Mimi, now a mechanical
engineer taking time off to raise three young children.
I therefore entered the ranks of happy homemakers for the next fifteen years
and soon Mimi was joined by her brother Jonathan in 1967. He is a proud daddy
of two girls and is a fourth generation Sheet Metal Worker in NYC local #28.
In 1966 we moved into a lovely little house that we built in Cold Spring
Harbor. I still live there with my cairn terrier "Buster".
While raising my children I became active in my Synagogue, taking particular
interest in Sisterhood and eventually became President in 1976. I continue
to participate in Sisterhood to this date. I accompanied my husband on many
trips around the the US, studied caligraphy, oriental cuisine, played bridge
and tennis and developed skills in dressmaking
and other needle crafts.
Sometime in the late seventies I began to feel unfulfilled, returned to
CW Post College and obtained my Masters Degree in Speech Pathology in preparation
to return to work in my chosen field. I eventually worked for the Long Island
Developmental Center as a Speech Pathologist with a specialty in the area
of the Developmentally Disabled.
During the past 12 years my marriage slowly disintegrated but my colleagues,
fellow workers, friends, and family provided me with a great deal of love
and support and we eventually divorced in 1997. I retired from what is now
LIDDSO in 2001 and, joined by my wonderful friend Jerry, we have started
to plan a retired life together. A townhouse in "The
Greens" at the former LIDC property in Melville has a deposit from me.
We look forward to an active Senior life style right in our own backyard
near
our grandkids. (ME 5 HE 7 and one more on the way,)
My days are filled with volunteer work, grandkids, reading, traveling, health
maintenance, studying for a belated Bat-Mitzvah, investment club, and just
enjoying each day and reaping the rewards of a full lifetime.
